It's time to rethink the system, says Douglas Hoey, RPh, MBA, CEO of the National Community Pharmacists Association at the July 2023 Total Pharmacy Solutions Summit. The current payment system in pharmacy is outdated, and if independent pharmacies want to reach their potential, then changes must be made, starting with who makes the decisions in the pharmacy space.
"The current model doesn't work for anyone. It certainly doesn't work for pharmacies, it doesn't work for consumers, it doesn't work for health care payers. It's confusing, covert, and needs to be overhauled."
"I think pharmacists helped rescue America during the pandemic," he said.
