Timothy Aungst, PharmD, Founder of The Digital Apothecary, discussed advancements in digital health and what to be aware of regarding the future of technology.
At the Fall 2024 Total Pharmacy Solutions Summit, held virtually on October 19, Timothy Aungst, PharmD, Founder of The Digital Apothecary, hosted a session titled “Navigating the Future: Key Technology Updates Every Community Pharmacist Should Know for 2024.” The discussion focused on providing pharmacists with essential knowledge about the latest technological advancements making waves in their industry.
“Why do we need to focus on technological growth and expansion?” Aungst posed this question at the start of his presentation, likening the growth of technology to the shift in our everyday activities. He asked rhetorical questions like “When was the last time you went to the bank?” and “Do you still go to the store?” to preface the idea that technology has taken over and made our lives easier, and we as humans sometimes take advantage of that.
“Patients have adopted a consumer mentality towards engaging in their health seeking to meet their needs on demand,” stated one of Aungst’s slide decks. With the help of technology, the home is now serving as the center of receiving care for many patients. While technology is the main catalyst for a lot of our daily activities, Aungst aimed to explain how all of this translates in the pharmacy.
Learn more from the insights in Aungst’s presentation, detailing the digitization of health care around us and how pharmacists have to keep up in order to deliver the highest quality but also the most convenient care.
