Celebrate Your Story at the American Associated Pharmacies 2023 Annual Conference

The 2023 AAP Annual Conference will take place in New Orleans from April 20 to 22.

American Associated Pharmacies will be taking over the Big Easy this April. From April 20 to 22, 2023, join AAP in New Orleans, Louisiana, for 3 days of Celebrating Your Story as an independent pharmacist.

In the early 1800s, Louis Joseph Dufilho, Jr. became the first licensed pharmacist in the United States. In 1823, Dufilho opened the first licensed pharmacy, which still exists today—albeit as the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum.1 Building on the city’s rich tradition of independent pharmacy, this year’s AAP meeting will celebrate the unique and compelling stories of AAP members’ independent pharmacies with an energizing lineup of speakers, educational CE sessions, and exhibitors.

Speakers at this year’s meeting include B. Douglas Hoey, CEO of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), giving a legislative update and sharing the story and work being done by NCPA on behalf of independent pharmacies; Josh Bolin, Associate Executive Director of Federal Affairs and Strategy at the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, discussing the upcoming DSCSA legislation; and Wayne Boese, Vice President of AAP Sales, sharing insights into the complexities of purchasing pharmacy inventory.

This year’s conference also features 3 keynote addresses. Kindra Hall, the best-selling author of Stories that Stick and an expert in storytelling for business, will take the stage to inspire attendees to tell their own stories as independent pharmacists. Scott Stratten, founder of UnMarketing, will discuss the power of building relationships, inspiring attendees to stop marketing to their customers and start engaging with them instead.

Rounding out the slate of keynote speakers is Louisiana pharmacist Dan Schneider, star of Netflix true crime docuseries The Pharmacist. After the tragic murder of his son, Schneider saw a troubling trend emerge at his pharmacy: young customers with no obvious medical conditions began presenting large prescriptions for oxycodone (OxyContin). Interest piqued, Schneider began investigating a local pill mill, and worked tirelessly to investigate the burgeoning opioid epidemic in Louisiana—eventually contributing to the downfall of OxyContin manufacturer Purdue Pharma. In addition to a keynote address, Schneider will be participating in a Q&A with conference attendees.

“Hosting our annual conference is not just about bringing people together, it's about creating a platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, innovation and networking,” said Ginny Langbehn, Vice President, Marketing and Communication at AAP. “It's a splendid opportunity to inspire and be inspired, to connect and be connected, and it’s one of the most highly anticipated weeks of the year for our staff and Board of Directors at AAP. The enthusiasm and power of connection with our Members at each conference cannot be overstated. It’s a remarkable event for all of us!”
