ASHP has named Paul W. Abramowitz, PharmD, FASHP, as its next CEO. He will succeed Henri R. Manasee Jr., PhD, ScD, who is retiring in December.
"After a thorough and exhaustive search process, I am excited to welcome Paul Abramowitz back to the ASHP family, and I look forward to working with him to advance the practice of pharmacists in hospitals and health systems," said ASHP President Diane B. Ginsburg, MS, RPh, FASHP. "The ASHP board of directors has complete confidence that Dr. Abramowitz is extremely well equipped to lead this vibrant and strong organization into the future. Dr. Abramowitz knows ASHP and pharmacy practice, and he has the insight and vision to take this organization to the next level."
Abramowitz is currently the associate hospital director for professional services and chief pharmacy officer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, and also holds appointments as assistant dean and professor at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy.
He also has held positions as faculty and director of pharmacy at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond.
"I am so pleased to have the opportunity to take the reins of such an effective organization, and I would like to thank President Ginsburg and the board of directors for granting me this wonderful opportunity," Abramowitz said.
