Watson Pharmaceuticals announced that Allen Chao, its chairman, president, and CEO, will retire as president and CEO effective Sept. 4. Chao will remain chairman of the board and, until the end of this year, will assume the role of executive chairman. Chao will be succeeded by Paul M. Bisaro, currently president and chief operating officer of Barr Pharmaceuticals, who has been named president and CEO of Watson, effective Sept. 4.
In a separate announcement, Barr Pharmaceuticals announced that its chairman and CEO Bruce Downey will assume Bisaro's responsibility at Barr on an interim basis.
