The theme of this year's AAP conference is transformation.
For the first time in 3 years, American Associated Pharmacies (AAP) is ready to gather together again, live and in person, for the 2022 AAP Annual Conference in Tampa, Florida.
The theme of this year’s meeting is transformation, intended to reflect the dramatic changes that the health care industry has experienced since the start of the pandemic.
“Our world has changed dramatically over the past 2 years, and pharmacists and other health care workers have exhibited extraordinary adaptability—in themselves, their businesses, their lives—to meet the rapidly changing needs in their communities. This year’s AAP Conference celebrates this transformation into the front-line health care superheroes we have all come to recognize and admire,” said Ginny Langbehn, Marketing & Communications Director at AAP.
To celebrate their return to in-person events, AAP has curated a lineup of dynamic keynote speakers, CE sessions, and panels from AAP leadership spread over 3 days, from April 21 to April 23.
“AAP is bringing nationally renowned speakers to this year’s conference to deliver inspiring and educational content in an exciting and compelling new way. We are thrilled to showcase our new event format to this year’s attendees,” added Tracie Heyrman, VP of Operations at AAP.
Robyn Benincasa, a 20-year veteran San Diego firefighter, World Champion Adventure Racer, 2014 CNN Hero, Guinness World Record Endurance Kayaker, New York Times bestselling author, founder of the Project Athena Foundation… and an award-winning keynote speaker. During her talk, Benincasa will share her insights into building world-class teams—insights she’s honed over 20 years of team competition in the Toughest Race on Earth. Benincasa has honed her leadership skills from the jungles of Borneo to the peaks of the Tibetan Himalayas and is an expert in the good, the bad, and the not-so-pretty aspects of extreme teamwork.
Ben Nemtin is the New York Times bestselling author of What Do You Want to Do Before You Die and the star of MTV’s The Buried Life. Nemtin joins the AAP keynote lineup to share his message of radical possibility, a message he’s shared widely on platforms like The Today Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as on CNN, FOX, and NBC News. Nemtin’s work is inspired by his own personal story, beginning with a bout of serious depression and ending with a cross-country bucket list completion quest that has, to date, inspired millions. Nemtin’s talk will focus on the idea of making the impossible possible, an important message for independent pharmacists in today’s health care climate.
Jeff Havens will take the stage with the goal of inspiring the audience to kickstart innovation. Havens is described as an atypical business growth expert, known for his laugh-out-loud presentations that have inspired more than 1000 audiences at companies across the globe, including Southwest Airlines, Trader Joes, and the Cleveland Browns. At AAP, Havens will address some of the most pressing challenges in the modern business world—a world where pharmacists are asked to do more with less, where problems are complex, and where unconventional solutions can make or break an independent business.
Nick Tasler is an internationally renowned thought leader and organizational psychologist, and the bestselling author of The Impulse Factor and Domino: The Simples Way to Inspire Change. Through his thought leadership work, Tasler has developed a simple decision framework that has helped thousands of business leaders, both within the health care industry and without, master change—and no industry has changed more in the last 2 years than the health care industry.
These keynote speakers will be joined by AAP President & CEO Jon Copeland, API President Clint King, AAP Vice President of Sales Wayne Boese, and AAP Vice President of Merchandising Mark Metzger, and AAP Marketing Director Ginny Langbehn. Continuing Education sessions will focus on pharmacy marketing, payor contracting, optimizing pharmacy financials, and doctor detailing.

“Independent pharmacists and other health care providers have really been in the trenches since the battle against this pandemic began. We continue to proudly support the businesses of these superheroes, and we are looking forward to this first face-to-face gathering of our membership since 2019,” said Jon Copeland, President and CEO of AAP. “The AAP staff, board of directors and I are all looking forward to seeing everyone again, and we have many exciting surprises in store.”
