Navigating AdvanCEs in Technology to Improve Patient Care:
Technology is a rapidly growing resource in pharmacy, with developments being used to improve the workflow and efficacy of patient care. As the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the utilization of telehealth and other digital health services, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians need to be up-to-date on technological advancements and understand which technologies they can use to progress their practice. This program will explore the most commonly implemented technology systems in pharmacy practice, such as those designed to count pills, file prescriptions, and track patient information. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will also be able to contextualize the future use of technology for remote patient monitoring, chronic disease management, and the integration of artificial intelligence in pharmacy practice.

Demystifying Insurance Claims and Billing to Improve Patient Access:
Though many more Americans have health insurance coverage in part due to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, a significant proportion of adults may still have inadequate access to prescription drug coverage. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have important roles in helping patients with access to medications through plans and programs that supplement their existing prescription drug coverage. Pharmacy personnel should be familiar with concepts such as utilization management tools including prior authorization and step therapy, as well as formulary tiers and patient assistance programs to address financial barriers. A review of the most frequently encountered medication claim rejection codes will be provided for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to identify and assist in accurate processing of billing and claims. Familiarization with these factors will ensure an efficient process is in place in the pharmacy for resolving billing issues and facilitating patient access to much needed medications to improve patient care.
