National Pharmacist Day is today, January 12! Today we would like to thank and honor all pharmacists across the country. The pharmacy profession is a growing one with over 316,500 pharmacists in the United States as of 2016.
The role of pharmacists has shifted over the last few years and our communities are tremendously thankful for all of the hard work and efforts pharmacists have provided during the pandemic.
The role of the pharmacist continues to expand. Once pharmacists were thought primarily for their roles in dispensing medication, but they continue to serve as integrated members of health care teams. Pharmacists are directly involved in patient care and play a key role in recovery.
Today, pharmacists advise patients and health care providers on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of prescriptions. Additionally, their role includes educating patients.1, 2
Happy #NationalPharmacistDay! Thank you to each and every one of you for all of your hard work and the ways you help your patients. Pharmacists are an integral part of our communities: dispensing medications, giving health advice, drug therapy, vaccinations, and more.
