Taking Care of Transparency in Drug Pricing, So Pharmacy Can Take Care of Patients

At the Summer 2024 Total Pharmacy Solutions Summit, held virtually on July 13, Erin Albert, Vice President of Pharmacy Relations and Chief Privacy Officer at Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, PBC, led a keynote discussion exploring all the benefits that her company offers.

In the session, titled “Taking Care of Transparency in Drug Pricing, So Pharmacy Can Take Care of Patients: An Update on Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, PBC,” Albert discussed how pharmacies and the individuals who operate them can reclaim revenue and focus more on providing valued care for their patients. She also touched on pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and how Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company is changing the mold in the pharmacy benefits space.

“I think the big three PBMs in particular do a disservice, in my opinion and [Mark Cuban’s opinion], to independent pharmacies,” said Albert. But she did not use her platform to condemn PBMs; rather, she used it as an opportunity to explain how her company is slowly working to become the go-to resource for transparent pharmacy benefits in the future.

Focusing on transparency within the pharmacy and helping pharmacists get back to a patient-centric focus, Albert discussed what her company is doing to attack the rising drug costs across the country. Despite her company’s model being rather new to the pharmacy benefits space, she exclaimed confidently that Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company is shaking up the industry.
