Janet Silvester, former president and board member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), in August will rejoin that organization as its vice president of accreditation services.

Silvester, MBA, FASHP, served as ASHP’s president from 2007 through 2008. She is also past president of the Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

“Janet brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this newly created position,” said Paul W. Abramowitz, PharmD, ScD (Hon), FASHP. “Her experience developing a pharmacy residency program at Martha Jefferson Hospital, as well as her previous leadership positions with the Society, make her an exceptional choice to help ASHP expand and elevate our accreditation programs.”

Silvester has more than 30 years of experience in hospital pharmacy practice, including 26 years at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Va., where she most recently served as director of pharmacy and emergency services. Last year, she received the ASHP Award for Distinguished Leadership in Health-System Pharmacy.

In her new position, Silvester will oversee growth and development of all ASHP accreditation programs and services, which include pharmacy residency and pharmacy technician training programs.
