CMS has ruled that prescription niacin products, such as Niaspan and Niacor, are prescription vitamins and are, therefore, excluded from Part D coverage. After May 31, the two products cannot be included in Part D formularies. Pharmacists should be careful about billing for Rx niacin products now and should not bill for them at all after May 31, according to NCPA.
