The maker of influenza drug Tamiflu (oseltamivir) has released consumer guidelines to help protect patients from purchasing counterfeit products. Among other things, Roche recommends patients use caution when buying the drug on-line, be wary of offers to sell medications without a valid prescription, and only purchase from a licensed pharmacy. Roche's move is the latest element in the company's anticounterfeiting initiative, which includes Internet surveillance, tracking systems, and communications protocols. The guidelines will include product photos and information on how to identify authentic Tamiflu products and are available on-line at http://www.tamiflu.com/consumer_guidelines.asp.
