With the rise of large-language models like ChatGPT, pharmacists must know the potential challenges they may encounter when using these new technologies.
For pharmacists using artificially intelligent (AI) technology like ChatGPT, one of the main challenges they encounter are AI hallucinations. This occurrence is when AI technology provides information that is untrue, leaving pharmacists with the task of sifting through the correct or incorrect insights.
When any new technology begins its adaptation into everyday life and certain areas of business, people are typically wary about it and must learn how to properly use it. With the inception of AI and large-language model (LLM) technology, like ChatGPT, pharmacists are now using these advanced insights to inform their patients and manage prescription drug regimens.
“AI is going to completely transform how we do businesses, how we do our work,” said Don Roosan, PharmD, PhD, Associate Professor of Data Science at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. He recently joined Drug Topics to discuss ChatGPT in pharmacy practice and the common challenges pharmacists may encounter when applying AI technology use in everyday practice.
Find out how a data science expert envisions the future of pharmacy with developing technologies, how he thinks pharmacists should react to these emerging technologies, and how this may only be the beginning of a potential AI revolution.
Stay tuned for our full-length conversation with Roosan on the next episode of Over the Counter this Thursday afternoon.
