President Bush has named Leslie Norwalk acting administrator of CMS, according to a report from the Associated Press. Norwalk has been the deputy administrator of CMS for the past five years and succeeds Mark McClellan who recently announced his resignation. It is unclear whether President Bush will nominate Norwalk as the permanent replacement, and it may still be many months before a new administrator is named and confirmed by Congress. Before joining CMS, Norwalk practiced law in Washington, D.C., and served in the administration of George H.W. Bush in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. Norwalk will assume the acting administrator role effective Oct. 15.
