NACDS applauds bill that preserves access to retail pharmacies for TRICARE beneficiaries
NACDS applauded President Bush for signing H.R. 4986, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008, thereby enacting the bill into law. The TRICARE program provides prescription drug coverage for over nine million active duty military personnel, retirees, and their families. The bill extends the current freeze on increases to retail pharmacy co-payments under TRICARE. This provision will help ensure that beneficiaries are not discouraged from filling prescriptions at the retail pharmacy of their choice. The bill also includes language that would clarify that the Department of Defense (DoD) may negotiate with drug manufacturers for federal pricing discounts for TRICARE prescriptions filled at retail pharmacies, in the same manner as they do today for TRICARE prescriptions filled at military bases, or by mail order.
