Check out this list of resources to share with patients who are managing a migraine or other headache diagnosis.

Can you imagine a world without headache? During Migraine and Headache Awareness Month, advocacy organizations are asking us to do just that. Each June, patients care givers, health care providers, and more come together to raise awareness about migraine and other headache conditions. Migraine in particular can be a debilitating disease: More than 42 million Americans are impacted by migraine both personally and professionally. According to the National Headache Foundation, “9 out of 10 people with migraine reported they could not ‘function normally’ during days in which a migraine strikes,” with nearly 3 in 10 requiring bed rest.1

National Headache Foundation

The National Headache Foundation boasts a slew of resources educating patients, providers, and their loved ones about disability benefits, ongoing research, clinical trials, and patient assistance programs. The organization also runs Operation Brainstorm, a health resource initiative for the military community—from active-duty service members to veterans—who are living with headache and migraine.

American Headache Society

The American Headache Society works to raise awareness of migraine and headache not only in the medical community, but also with legislators on Capitol Hill to address the structural stigma that people living with migraine face every day. The American Headache Society also holds their Annual Scientific Meeting each June. This year, migraine and headache clinicians will come together in San Diego June 13 to 16 to discuss the latest in migraine and headache research (and be sure to check back next week for the latest coverage from Drug Topics).

American Migraine Foundation

The American Migraine Foundation is working to debunk myths about migraine, from the truth about triggers to the details of diagnosis. Migraine is more than just a headache; it’s a disabling neurological disease, and the American Migraine Foundation offers resources and education for patients and providers to help stop the stigma.
