Drug Topics' 2010 Chain of the Year award goes to Kerr Drug, a regional chain based in Raleigh, N.C.
"Probably 10 years before we started Kerr Drug, I was working with the University of Pittsburgh pharmacy school to develop the concept of a community health center based in a drugstore and run by a clinical PharmD," Civello told Drug Topics. "The problem was that we were part of JCPenney. Even though I was president of the stores division, there were just too many layers of bureaucracy and approvals to get it done."
"The Kerr Drug team has continued to distinguish themselves for their patient-focused approach to pharmacy," one of our judges wrote. "Their innovations in maximizing the use of pharmacists in medication management have really differentiated them from any other chain pharmacy."
