Medical Mutual of Ohio has committed $1 million to fund 14 four-year scholarships for students seeking pharmacy degrees at the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED).
The Medical Mutual Pharmacy Scholars program will provide $18,000 toward annual tuition and fees. Students in good standing at the Rootstown, Ohio school will be eligible to receive the scholarship for four years.

“It’s not often that two organizations align so well on community health initiatives,” Jay A. Gershen, DDS, PhD, president of NEOMED, stated in a release. “But this is even better, as we also share a desire for innovative workforce development solutions that truly maximizes the impact. In addition to developing health professionals from the community, we’re also deploying them to return and provide healthcare for those communities.”
Students receiving the scholarships will be required to work one year for every year of scholarship in an underserved rural or urban community in regions covered by Medical Mutual.
