It looks like pharmacies will have to make room for yet another slew of new over-the-counter items. Take a peek at these cutting-edge products:

Heart health

Chattem is forging ahead with Garlique CardioAssist Advanced Heart Formula to help reduce the risk of heart disease. The formula contains a blend of plant sterols, niacin, folic acid, and vitamins B₆ and B₁₂. The firm claims the product is for consumers who are serious about heart health, but have been told by their doctor that they don't need a drug therapy.

Prestige Brands is unpacking Chloraseptic Relief Strips that contain menthol and benzocaine for relief of sore throat pain.

Heads up

Procter & Gamble is adding Intensive Solutions to its Head & Shoulders line. The product is a maximum-strength antidandruff shampoo for the treatment and prevention of seborrheic dermatitis and severe dandruff. It is intended to treat itching, flaking, dryness, and redness. The formula includes 2% pyrithione zinc.

Another product for hair from P&G is Pro-V Restoratives Time Renewal collection. The line, which includes a shampoo, conditioner, and renewal mask, is intended to repair up to two years of damage to hair's smoothness and shine in one month.

Stress and pain busters

Aveeno Stress Relief Body Wash is now available. The wash contains natural colloidal oatmeal, lavender, and essential chamomile and ylang-ylang oil. It is intended to calm and relax, as well as cleanse and moisturize to relieve dry skin.

McNeil is launching KY Touch Massage Foot Massage Relaxing Lotion. Ingredients include sesame seed oil.

Directly From Nature is unveiling Rescue Sleep, a natural sleep aid that comes in a spray that is used in the mouth. The formula contains white chestnut.

Oral care

GlaxoSmithKline is taking the wraps off Polident Fresh Cleanse, a foaming antibacterial denture cleanser. The firm claims the product provides fresh breath for five hours.

Breathe Right Snore Relief Throat Rinse, a new item from CNS Inc., is supposed to lubricate throat tissues to minimize vibrations and control the snoring sound.

Orajel Toddler Training Toothpaste is being introduced by Del Pharmaceuticals. The fluoride-free formula comes in Bubble Burst, Fruit Splash, and Berry Blast, with breath freshener and added calcium.

Defying adult acne

Aveeno is introducing Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser with a full-page ad that states, "Finally a breakthrough cleanser designed for adults." Aveeno Foaming Cleanser is claimed to help prevent blemishes without drying out your skin. The product contains soy extracts.
