Health Mart has appointed Stephen E. Courtman as its new president, the pharmacy franchiser announced today in a press release.

Courtman will "shape the future of the franchise," which reached the 3,000 mark this month for number of member pharmacies.
"Health Mart owners and pharmacists are passionate about the success of independent pharmacy and delivering exceptional customer service, and Steve shares that commitment," said Brian Tyler, president, McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical, which owns Health Mart.
Courtman, who has been in the industry for 25 years, will help make operations more efficient while using technological innovations and expanding clinical capabilities, according to the release.
"Rapidly growing from a few hundred pharmacies to 3,000, Health Mart has been a compelling success story in retail pharmacy over the past several years," Courtman said. "I look forward to collaborating with our Health Mart members to bring forth innovative solutions that can help them address their most pressing needs - ultimately fueling their growth and success."
Before taking the position at Health Mart, Courtman was the senior vice president of retail markets at Medco Health Solutions. At Medco, he contracted with independent and chain pharmacies and created pharmacy networks.Prior to working for Medco, Courtman was involved in the aerospace, automotive, healthcare, and restaurant-franchise industries.
"Through his deep understanding of retail pharmacy and the changing reimbursement landscape, he is uniquely qualified to lead Health Mart’s continued success - especially as Health Mart has reached 3,000 stores," Tyler said.
