Examining Pharmacists Role in the Current Vaccine Landscape

Posters presented at the APhA 2024 Annual Meeting and Exposition discussed pharmacist barriers in pediatric immunizations, a novel meningococcal vaccine, and the need for inpatient reviews of vaccination history.

Vaccines are without a doubt one of the most important developments in the history of medicine. Millions of lives are saved annually from preventable diseases due to the wide availability of immunizations. As medication experts and trusted members of the health care team, pharmacists have proven themselves invaluable when it comes to vaccine administration. Previous research has shown that when pharmacists are involved in the immunization process, it has positive effects on vaccine uptake. Five posters presented at the American Pharmacists Association 2024 Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in Orlando, Florida, from March 22 to 25, looked further into the topic of vaccines in the pharmacy.
