Consumers can smack their lips over these new items

The cold, dry winter air can wreak havoc on consumers' skin, causing chapped lips and cracked feet. Manufacturers have unleashed a slew of new products to treat these conditions. Here's a sampling of products coming soon to pharmacy shelves:

Blistex, Oak Brook, Ill., is unveiling Blistex Lip Infusion, a liquid lip balm for protecting and moisturizing lips. The product is supposed to impart an immediate, soothing, cool, and moist sensation from the liquid formula that rolls on lips via a stainless steel rolling tip applicator.

The company is also marketing Aveeno Essential Moisture Lip Conditioner with SPF 15. Its ingredients include natural oatmeal, jojoba oil, and shea butter, to help leave lips feeling moisturized.

Not to be outdone, Wyeth Consumer Healthcare is unveiling Narnia, a limited edition of ChapStick lip balms with SPF 15. The balms feature Lucy and Peter, the characters in the Walt Disney movie The Chronicles of Narnia. The balms come in wild apple, icy apple, icy melon, and magical melon.

Pfizer is getting into the act with Neosporin LT Lip Treatment. The product is intended to relieve painful cold sores and severely dry, chapped lips.

Lotta Luv, New York City, is introducing Snapple Lip Balms for Thirsty Lips. The balms come in 14 flavors and four unique shapes. Flavors include fruit punch, go bananas, grapeade, lemon, peach, and raspberry. The shapes include Lip Juicers, a mini Snapple bottle; Lip Yumms, shaped like a twist-off Snapple cap; Lip Freshers, a Snapple pop tin; and Lip Slicks, a "cool disc shape."

Canker Cover is a new canker sore treatment from Quantum Health. It is a tablet-like patch, made from edible ingredients. The firm claims that it sticks to the canker sore within seconds and then turns into a protective film that lasts more than eight hours. The treatment is also supposed to freshen breath and heal most sores in one application.

Bonne Belle is trotting out VitaGloss moisture stick. The item is supposed to provide the benefits of a liquid gloss in an ultra-clear twist-up stick. VitaGloss is enriched with vitamins A and E and lightly sweetened with refreshing flavors that include raspberry, strawberry, watermelon, pineapple, kiwi, and mango.

Essential Lip SunShield is a new PABA-free SPF 30 sunscreen lip balm from OraLabs. Lip SunShield's ingredients include vitamin E and aloe for conditioning, moisturizing, and hydrating lips.

Bayer Consumer Care is offering Campho-Phenique Cold Sore Treatment for Scab Relief. It is intended to penetrate and soften a cold sore scab, seal in moisture to promote healing, and relive the cold sore pain.
