Henry Cohen has been named dean of the Touro College of Pharmacy and will begin his new job in January, the school recently announced.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Henry Cohen join Touro to lead our dedicated pharmacy team, train our students for the myriad careers in the field, and take the school to the next level,” said Alan Kadish, Touro’s president.

Henry CohenCohen is currently a pharmacy professor at Long Island University, and chief pharmacy officer for the Department of Pharmacy and director of pharmacy residency programs at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.

He is past president of the New York State Council of Health System Pharmacists and editor-in-chief of The Journal of Pharmacy Practice.

“As a clinical pharmacist and longtime advocate for the profession, I am excited by the opportunity to have a significant impact on pharmacy education and the practice field and to help students prepare for rewarding careers,” Cohen said. “My goal is to provide an educational experience that includes active learning, exemplary pharmacy practice clerkships as well as collaborative research and scholarship opportunities with faculty who are at the vanguard of science and practice.”

Cohen earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Long Island University. He earned his doctorate degree from St. John’s University College of Pharmacy.

“My vision is to enhance the collaborative opportunities for inter-professional education with Touro’s College of Medicine and to jointly grow our research and scholarship-all efforts that will help our students secure residencies and fellowships that will prepare them for the multitude of career options in pharmacy,” Cohen said.
