The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is offering hardship payments for providers with cash flow problems related to the National Provider Identification numbers.
Recognizing that the implementation of National Provider Identification numbers may cause billing problems, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is offering advance or accelerated payments for some healthcare providers. According to CMS, the payments will only be considered under limited circumstances. Medicare providers that are experiencing cash flow problems related to NPI claims processing issues should contact their Medicare contractor to determine if they are eligible for an advance or accelerated payment. The Medicare contractor will review the request and provide a decision.
