Check out this list of resources to share with patients who are managing an allergy or asthma diagnosis.
Like sunshine and summer, allergies and asthma can go hand in hand. This year, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAFA) of America is celebrating 40 years of allergy and asthma awareness. The month of May “is a peak season for people with asthma and allergies, and a perfect time to educate patients, family, friends, co-workers, and other people about allergic diseases,” wrote AAFA.1
More than 100 million individuals in the US have asthma and more than 81 million individuals have rhinitis due to nasal allergies.1 There is no cure for either of these conditions, but they can be managed through a combination of medications and lifestyle changes.

The theme of this year’s allergy and asthma awareness month is empowerment: Empowering individuals, families, and the community at large to save and improve lives for those living with asthma and allergies.
American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI)
ACAAI provides toolkits and resources for patients and caregivers of those with allergies or asthma. The website also has a collection of interactive tools that can arm patients with the knowledge they need to confidently participate in the management of their disease.
Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America
AAFA supports patients through a variety of resources. In addition to their advocacy efforts—which support public policies that will ultimately benefit those living with asthma and allergies—the organization shares their research and offers a variety of educational programs, resources, and tools for patients, caregivers, and health care providers.
Asthma & Allergy Network
In addition to patient resources, the Asthma & Allergy Network website helps patients identify clinical research studies to participate in, furthering the organization’s mission of including the patient voice “from all communities in all aspects of research.” The organization also offers the Asthma Equity Explorer, which can be used by researchers to analyze the social, economic, and environmental impacts at the intersection of a patient’s zip code.
