Pharmacy commission releases patient-care document
July 15th 2014Members of the Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners (JCPP) recently released a new resource document that details the patient care process. The document was developed over a two-year period and aims to “promote consistency in patient care service delivery across the profession.”
Authorized generics for hypertension treatment announced
July 9th 2014Sandoz, the generic pharmaceuticals division of Novartis, has introduced an authorized generic version of Diovan (valsartan) tablets for the treatment of hypertension. The generic version of Diovan will be available in 40 mg, 80 mg, 160 mg, and 320 mg strength tablets, the same strength as the branded version.
FDA approves third treatment for PTCL
July 8th 2014FDA has approved another treatment for patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL), a rare yet aggressive type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Belinostat (Beleodaq) by Spectrum Pharmaceuticals was approved under FDA’s accelerated approval program. It is indicated for patients with relapsed or refractory PTCL.

Joint Commission: Vial misuse harming thousands of patients
July 7th 2014The misuse of single-dose and multiple-dose vials has harmed thousands of patients, in some cases causing bloodborne pathogens including hepatitis B and C, meningitis, and epidural abscesses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
