Eli Lilly Offers Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing for Indianapolis Health Care Workers
The announcement follows their previous commitment to offering COVID-19 testing at local hospitals.
Eli Lilly and Company announced on Sunday that it will be providing drive-through screenings for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the novel coronavirus, to health care workers on the front lines of the pandemic.
The announcement follows the pharmaceutical company’s statement last week that they are working in conjunction with the Indiana State Department of Health to provide testing of COVID-19 samples from local hospitals at a specialized facility at Lilly Research Laboratories.
Testing is being offered solely to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health care professionals in the area in a supportive effort to protect health care workers, who are at a significantly higher risk of being infected by COVID-19. By protecting health care workers, Lilly aims to bolster the region’s health care system in order to also protect the patients they serve.
The drive-through testing service additionally addresses the problem of health care workers being unable to receive COVID-19 testing through diagnostic facilities currently available. They must have an order from a physician requesting COVID-19 testing.
“Lilly is committed to doing what we can to help fight COVID-19 in our community. By offering testing to our active health care workers, we hope to protect both them and the patients they serve,” said Daniel Skovronsky, MD, PhD, Lilly’s chief scientific officer and president of Lilly Research Labs.
