Prescription Solutions, a pharmacy benefits manager and a UnitedHealth Group company in Irvine, Calif., recently launched an online service that speeds up approval of prior authorization requests.
With the new service, physicians and healthcare professionals can submit real-time prior authorization requests 24 hours a day. The technology’s auto-population feature - which intuitively provides 95% of a patent’s information and medication history from previously submitted claims - also speeds up the process.
“We have made it possible for our claim and prior authorization services to ‘talk’ to each other in order to improve service for physicians,” said Joseph Addiego, MD, senior medical director for Prescription Solutions.
“With just a few mouse clicks, physicians can submit information that previously had to be collected by phone or fax,” a statement from Prescription Solutions announced.
Here is how the system works: After physicians or healthcare providers log into www.prescriptionsolutions.com with a unique National Provider Identifier number and password, they can submit patient details, enter a diagnosis and medical justification for the requested medication, and in many cases receive authorization instantly.
If an additional clinical review is needed, it is typically completed in less than 72 hours. Physicians can also check the status of a prior authorization request, even if it was not submitted online.
